Hi, this is Bear.  I’m writing for QD and Jerry and Maggie since I’m the oldest.  We just met a guy who we LOVE.  He is, Steve Monahan, Founder and Executive Director of Meals Fur Pets.  Read Steve’s cool story.

Jerry and I and our 2 kitties, Tom & Cali were all rescued from animal shelters.  I especially want to talk about my kitty, Tom.  He was 7 when my family adopted him.  He was owned by an old lady.  Tom enjoyed sitting on her lap all day being lovingly petted for hours.  The old lady got sick and couldn’t afford to take care of herself and Tom.  So she tearfully took him to the Cherokee County Animal Shelter. 

We hate when this happens and so does Steve and lots of people who help him.  Steve gets pet food, pet education and medical care to the poor so we can save dogs and kitties like Tom from going to an animal shelter.  Half of the animals that go into a shelter, never find a home and never come out. 

We and the rest of the Soul Food Market are proudly donating 25% of every doggie and kitty treat sold to the Meals Fur Pets program.

I’ve been told that I have the personality of Miss Piggy and Angelica from the Rugrats.  My hobbies are eating and collecting things and also eating the things I collect.  I collect things from all over the house.  I hide them under my mom’s bed.  No one is allowed under there except me and my mom.  Right now, I have Augie’s entire bag of valentines that he got at school.  Lots of them used to have candy taped to them.  I ate all of that for him.  He can have them back now.  That stuff would rot his teeth. 

I am a Springer Spaniel with perfect markings, of course.  I’m four years old and I didn’t come from the animal shelter, like the boys.  No one would ever want to get rid of me.  I’m pretty, smart and puuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrfect!  The key to understanding me is that I live up to my name…..I SPRING.  If my mom tries out recipes at home, I often try the first one….right off the counter top.  My mom says the only safe place is on top of the refrigerator.  At night, I lay awake thinking of ways to create a ladder to get up there. 

Another one of my hobbies is barking at the new cats we have.  My mom doesn’t like it.  She often tells me to stop.  But I just enjoy talking very loudly to the cats.  I think that’s the only way they’ll learn to speak “dog”. 

I love to get in the dryer when my mom is taking out the warm towels.  I often growl to get her to leave me alone and leave the towels in there. 

I also help my mom with the dishes at night.  I consider myself the pot scrubber cycle, licking all the dishes before she puts the soap in.  I like to save energy.  Think green!

My dad rescued me from the animal shelter in Murphreesboro, Tennessee.  He read about me in Petfinders.com. 

I am a red Golden Retriever.  I ended up at the shelter because I was the product of a divorce.  My first dad spoke Spanish and my first mom spoke English.  So I am bilingual.  I love it here in Hickory Flat, Georgia. 

I love toys.  I carry a “baby” nearly everywhere I go.  I help my mom with the laundry by picking up dirty clothes.  I often try to wash them with my tongue, but they smell and taste so darn good that next thing you know, WHOOP, they’re in my tummy.  It surprises me too. 

I also like to eat the fringe off my mom’s oriental rug in the foyer…(don’t tell her).  Oh yeah, I also like to swim in the pool….even in the winter.  My mom thinks I’ll catch a cold. 

My best friend is QD.  We play tug of war with pantyhose, dirty clothes and rope.  I especially love to decorate the house with the stuffing from my mom’s oven mitts when they have a little bit of muffin-cake batter or sugar on them.  She now buys those dumb rubber kind.  They’re no fun.
