Summer Pleasures

I love the long days of summer.  There’s nothing like going to bed around 9:00 p.m. (while the sun is still up!) Be sure to bring your favorite book, a tall glass of fresh squeezed limeade with a handful of cherries tossed in and a Mitford Marmalade muffin-cake.

I love reading and chuckling to Jan Karon’s books.  They make me want to live in Mitford.  Her cookbook is the best.  Father Tim’s beef stew has bacon in it.  I haven’t made it yet, but it sounds incredible!

I’m finally tilling my vegetable garden.  We will plant many things including pumpkins and corn.  My favorite part is seeing the beautiful pumpkin flowers.  They’re even better than zucchini flowers.

I’m also looking for loofah sponge gourd seeds.  Those make INCREDIBLE flowers.

If you haven’t already….start that garden.  It adds zing to your summer and flavor to your table.
